What is expected

 

ESSAY

 

1. Start with “Significance” which should discuss the importance of the issue you are covering and the current policies used.

ONE MID SIZED PARAGRAPH

 

2. Move to the Proposition/Government Arguments; ones that would be used in the first speech (in favor of a change in policy). Discuss the arguments and how to effectively present them.

ONE LONG PARAGRAPH

 

3. Move to the Opposition Arguments; ones used in opposition to the Government case. Discuss the arguments and how to effectively present them.

ONE LONG PARAGRAPH

 

4. Discuss strategies and lines of argument for the two speeches defending the original government and opposition lines of argument (the MG (2AC) and MO (2N/1NR).

TWO MID SIZED PARAGRAPHS

 

ARGUMENT OUTLINES

 

1. Provide an outline of the PMC Constructive (the first speech in a debate in favor of a change in policy; pmc = 1ac)

·        Bold the tags for the arguments

·        Use outline organization

·        Inherency, Plan, Advantages with Significance and Solvency (No Unique, Link, Impact)

·        Give short, specific supporting material for the arguments WITH CITATIONS

2. Provide an outline of Opposition Arguments (the arguments against the pmc/government case; opposition = negative)

·        Case Responses (there is not a significant problem; the current policy is solving the problem; the plan will not solve the problem)

·        Disadvantages (show the plan will cause a significant problem; show the problem is harmful–hurts people; No generics; No tenuously linked arguments with huge-nuke war type impacts)

·        Counterplans that are NON-TOPICAL only and that are straight up against the case. (eg If the gov case is solar energy, prepare a counterplan for nuclear power or for more oil mining; show it solves)

·        Pretty much no kritiks unless your grandma and grandpa would make them against the case.

3. Provide an outline of MG (2ac) and MO (2nc/1nr) Responses.

·        MG responses to the LO (1nc); defend the case, respond to the disadvantages, and to the counterplan.

·        MO responses to the MG (2ac); defend the case attacks, the disadvantage, and the counterplan.

·        Tags with specific supporting materials for the arguments WITH CITATIONS.
