ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT FULL SOURCE CITATIONS

·       There are multiple authors--Who do I cite?
For 2 or less authors, name and qualify both authors. 
For 3 or more authors, name and qualify the first author, followed by Et al,

 

·       The book is edited by one author, but the chapter is written by someone else--Who do I cite?
You name and qualify the author of the chapter--not the editor(s) of the book.

 

·       The evidence includes a quotation from another author--Who do I cite?
You cite the source for the article/book--ignore the material in the quotation for deciding what the source citation will be.

 

·       There is no author/the author has no qualifications in this law review article.
The author’s name may appear at the end of the article.
The author’s qualifications may be J.D. Candidate; their date of graduation is usually included.
Sometimes, law reviews write articles as a group and they have no author.
